Back Of Head To Selion
The distance from the back of the head to the selion point.
BackOfHeadToSelion
How to measure
Application
Used in eyewear and helmet nose bridge design to position nose pads and internal components relative to the rear of the head.
Posture
Head level, looking straight ahead.
Landmark
The selion is the deepest point of the nose bridge, between the eyes, where the nose meets the forehead. Measured horizontally from this point to the most rearward point of the skull.
Tool
Tape measure.
Assistance
A second person should locate the rearmost skull point and hold the tape end in place.
Common mistake
Measuring from the tip of the nose rather than the deepest point of the bridge gives a significantly larger result.
API example
Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
