Buttock Knee Length

The length from the buttock to the knee.

ButtockKneeLength

How to measure

Application

Used in vehicle, theatre, and aircraft seating design to determine the minimum fore-aft clearance required in front of a seated occupant.

Posture

Sit upright on a firm, flat surface with knees bent to 90° and feet flat on the floor.

Landmark

Measured horizontally from the back of the buttock to the front of the kneecap.

Tool

Tape measure or rigid ruler.

Common mistake

Slouching shifts the buttock forward on the seat and shortens the result. Sit fully upright against a backrest.

API example

Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
