Index Finger Width Pip
The width of the index finger at the proximal interphalangeal joint.
IndexFingerWidthPip
How to measure
Application
Used in ring and finger splint sizing at the knuckle, and medical joint assessment of the index finger.
Posture
Hand flat, palm facing downward, finger straight and relaxed.
Landmark
Measured across the PIP joint — the middle knuckle of the index finger. Count from the base: base knuckle (MCP), then middle knuckle (PIP).
Tool
Digital caliper.
Common mistake
Measuring at the base knuckle (MCP) or fingertip rather than the middle joint gives an inaccurate result.
