Leg Length

The length from the hip joint to the floor.

LegLength

How to measure

Application

Used in clothing trouser proportioning, prosthetic leg sizing, cycling fit, and gait analysis.

Posture

Stand upright with weight evenly distributed.

Landmark

Measured from the greater trochanter (outer hip joint) to the floor, along the outer leg.

Tool

Tape measure.

Assistance

A second person should locate the greater trochanter and hold the tape end in place.

Common mistake

This is not the same as inseam length. Leg length runs from the hip joint to the floor along the outer leg, not from the groin.
