Popliteal Height

The height from the sitting surface to the back of the knee.

PoplitealHeight

How to measure

Application

Used in chair seat height design to ensure feet rest flat on the floor without pressure behind the knee. Critical for classroom, office, and vehicle seating.

Posture

Sit on a firm, flat surface with knees bent to exactly 90° and feet flat on the floor.

Landmark

Measured from the floor to the back of the knee crease.

Tool

Rigid ruler or tape measure.

Clothing

Remove shoes, or measure and subtract heel height separately.

Common mistake

Sitting on a soft surface compresses and underestimates the result. Use a hard chair or bench.

API example

Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
