Ring Finger Width Pip

The width of the ring finger at the proximal interphalangeal joint.

RingFingerWidthPip

How to measure

Application

Used in ring sizing at the knuckle — rings must pass over the PIP joint — and in finger splint design.

Posture

Hand flat, palm facing downward, finger straight and relaxed.

Landmark

Measured across the PIP joint — the middle knuckle of the ring finger.

Tool

Digital caliper.

Common mistake

Measuring at the base knuckle (MCP) rather than the PIP joint gives a wider result. The PIP is the middle knuckle, not the base.

API example
