Shoulder Grip Length

The length from the shoulder to the grip point of the hand.

ShoulderGripLength

How to measure

Application

Used in tool, control, and steering wheel design to determine maximum comfortable reach distance from the shoulder joint.

Posture

Arm extended forward at shoulder height, hand closed in a relaxed grip.

Landmark

Measured from the bony tip of the shoulder (acromion) to the centre of the closed grip.

Tool

Tape measure.

Common mistake

Shrugging the shoulder forward during the reach inflates the result. Keep the shoulder back and relaxed.

API example

Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
