Thigh Length

The length from the hip joint to the knee.

ThighLength

How to measure

Application

Used in seating design, prosthetic thigh sizing, and trouser leg proportioning.

Posture

Stand upright or sit with the thigh horizontal and parallel to the floor.

Landmark

Measured from the greater trochanter (outer hip joint) to the lateral knee joint, along the outer thigh.

Tool

Tape measure.

Assistance

A second person should locate both landmarks and hold the tape ends in place.

Common mistake

Measuring along the inner thigh gives a longer result. Measure along the outer side only.
