Thigh Thickness

The thickness of the thigh at its widest point.

ThighThickness

How to measure

Application

Used in vehicle and desk design to ensure adequate clearance between the seat surface and the underside of a table or dashboard for a seated occupant.

Posture

Sit on a firm surface with the thigh horizontal and parallel to the floor.

Landmark

Measured vertically at the thickest point of the thigh, typically mid-thigh.

Tool

Spreading caliper or tape measure.

Clothing

Remove bulky clothing around the thigh.

Common mistake

Measuring at the very top of the thigh near the groin gives a larger result. Mid-thigh is the correct and standard landmark.

API example

Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
