Top Of Head To Stomion

The distance from the top of the head to the stomion point.

TopOfHeadToStomion

How to measure

Application

Used in medical craniofacial assessment and full-face mask design to determine vertical face height from the crown of the head.

Posture

Head level, looking straight ahead, lips relaxed and closed.

Landmark

The stomion is the centre point where the upper and lower lips meet. Measured vertically from this point to the top of the head.

Tool

Tape measure or rigid ruler.

Assistance

A second person should hold the tape end at the top of the head and confirm it is at the true crown.

Common mistake

Measuring to the base of the nose rather than the centre of the lip line gives a shorter result.

API example

Request a predicted value for a 34-year-old woman at the 50th percentile in the United States. Adjust age, percentile, gender, and country to match your design scenario.
