Upper Limb Length

The length from the shoulder to the fingertip.

UpperLimbLength

How to measure

Application

Used in prosthetics, full sleeve length in clothing design, and ergonomic reach envelope modelling.

Posture

Stand upright, arm hanging relaxed at the side.

Landmark

Measured from the bony tip of the shoulder (acromion) to the tip of the middle finger.

Tool

Tape measure.

Assistance

A second person should locate the acromion and hold the tape end in place while the arm hangs naturally.

Common mistake

Letting the arm swing forward or backward changes the result. Keep it hanging naturally at the side.
